Stock criticism for Michalsky’s collections is that they are more flash than dash. This jab is definitely outmoded as his label becomes increasingly refined and streamlined each season. For S/S 12, Michalsky puckishly undercut his reputation for dressing bad boys and Glamazons by almost banning heels from his catwalk. Instead of stilettos, his female models sported billowing accordion-pleated Goddess gowns and clipped-waisted jumpsuits with chunky, elfin flats. The silhouette channeled early Lily Allen’s insouciance but the gowns themselves were clearly worthy of any grown-up black-tie affair. For his Glamazon base, his new line of high-lux swimwear, LASCANA, promises to add an extra sprig of Cindy Crawford style glitz to the any rooftop dipping pool.
