Anja Gockel’s collection is somewhat like a suburban transplant: chic as she may be walking the city streets, there’s always a sense that she might rather be wearing sweatpants. Be that as it may, she’s a sophisticated transplant—save the rather 90s reminiscent heart-appliqués on many of the garments.
The pieces mix high and low, a series of form-fitting dresses in black lace and cotton jersey standing out in particular for their flatteringly minimalist silhouettes and playful patterning. The collection is certainly not monochromatic, however. Gockel’s pallet is decked in sea-foam green, cherry red, orange, teal and purple. All five come together in a recurrent fabric that resembles Technicolor camouflage. All bets were off when the last look, a magnificent white gown with draped layers that cascaded to the floor appeared, adding some edge to the otherwise round collection.
