Although having a detergent brand for ally might not be the most glamorous of choices, Michalsky managed to return to its sartorial origins with a collection that reclaimed his style positioning.
The expectedly ostentatious show opened with London-based label Maharishi’s first-ever runway show, followed by the performance of an aria from Medea by singer Nadja Michael. The main act, Michalsky’s S/S11 collection, was fluid and glamorous. The larger-than-life presentation provided the right tone of grandeur to the garments, where the designer’s leather and silk works really came through. One particular piece, a metallic corset, took one of the season’s trends (the metallic cuff bracelets) to new heights.
When the show was over, an afterthought of fantastic creatures dominated the stage promoting Friedrichstadtpalast’s new glit-and-glam extravaganza, Yma, for which Michalsky designed the costumes. Although transitions in between advertising, theatre, fashion and glitter were slightly awkward, all in all, quality was there at the core of the show—the clothes.
