Michael Michalsky’s delightful StyleNite fete included: models adorned with Slavic themed body-paint and a kick-line of Russian cuties for the Roeckl glove line, a breathtaking performance by singer Marina and the Diamonds, an underwhelming cowgirl themed catwalk show by C’est Tout, an appearance by post-gender beauty Andrej Pejic and Michalsky’s own electrifying collection.
In all this sensual stimulation, the standout star was a pair of liquid-like sheer latex leggings which first appeared underneath a prim black suit. Michalsky’s lady-like black skirt swished with understated flirty charm, while the leggings revealed a darker raw sexuality reminiscent of Belle-de-Jour’s whore/ genteel housewife. The model’s subversive stems were the perfect embodiment of Michalsky’s theme: lust.
The collection’s theme climaxed in a series of prints by Berlin’s current art star, Zhivago Duncan. He contributed a print version of his rainbow neon sculpture to pantsuits, shirts and the skirt of a thrilling evening gown. Under a black leather bodice, the flowing fabric of final look contained a coded version of his sculpture’s text (surrounding a phallus struck by lighting). “Am i all that is outside of me,” it read. After StyleNite’s enormous energy, this reflective line lingers.
