After a blissfully bacchanalian night at the Vogue bash, I am overjoyed to wake up at the Schumacher show. I am confident enough in my cool credentials to admit that I love this lady-like label.
Although there were many looks this season that I strongly disliked, the overall effect was joyful and invigorating. My problems lay with the prints, which came in clashing combinations and seemed only suitable for suburban matrons and middle-management. I realise these are Schumacher’s base, but the bold colour-blocked wool and leather day looks and brilliantly layered evening outfits transcended demographics. Flowing, fitted trained descending from vests, layered over lean trousers, created an especially fresh and sexy alliterative to girly red-carpet gowns. And while I know it isnt fair to judge a show by the gift-bag, I feel that Schmacher’s allure can be summed up by the gracious and clever little presents offered on all the seats–a brand magazine and signature pink hat box with a ceramic bow, that opens into a memory-stick. Like the label itself, this present looks light and sweet but has a real practical purpose. As Melissa Drier, of WWD, pronounced of the whole experience, “it was unadulteratedly delightful.”
