romanian designers at bebelplatz

Berlin Fashion Week is no stranger to visitors showcasing their collections at the German capital’s tent. First came the Scandinavians—the Danes, the Swedes. The Japanese, the Americans, the Belgian and then some. This season it was the turn for Romania to make an appearance in the city’s catwalk, giving opportunity to four designers to send their collections down the runway. Although having four completely different styles walk the runway back-to-back was startling and a tad overwhelming, the show succeeded in representing the wide range of talent from the East European country. Alina Botea, Lucian Broscatean, Andreea Musat, and Irina Schrotter all showed complete collections with a strong sense of identity as designers. Having known very little on Romanian fashion–its providence, its vision—the show kept surprising the attendants with garments ranging from cute-wearable to deconstructed-conceptual, begging the question: “Who are they?”, as each model made her way down the runway.
