Michael Michalsky opened his StyleNite show with a live performance by Alphaville, who energized much of the audience with the refrain “Forever Young.” Yet the band are hardly kittens and the real staying power from the evening was the roster of legendary ageless models who sported Michalsky’s Urban Nomads collection. Other shows referenced the seventies’ aesthetic but Michalsky actually resurrected the real appeal of the era with an appearance by Pat Cleveland, the Josephine Baker of modeling who was the first black top model. She was joined by a multi-generational crew of powerful faces, including artist Christina Kruse, who wore the Yohji Yamamoto-esque collection of flowing pale fabric. The eternal elegance of the catwalk presentation was slightly undermined by the unusual junk food fare served at the traditionally spectacular afterparty, but the pizza pockets, popcorn, pasta and other sleep-over microwaveables were a cozy segway into the German preview release of.
